Lecture-Recital for National Opera Week

  • Room 124, Rockwell Hall, Buff State 1300 Elmwood Avenue Buffalo, NY, 14222 United States (map)

Once again I am giving the Spotlight Lecture for National Opera Week in Buffalo/ Niagara, for OperaBuffs of WNY: "What is opera anyways? And does it really matter?"

Join me for an exploration of all forms of theatrical music in the Western canon ranging from Greek drama to contemporary operas. What is the technical difference between opera, grand opera, Singspiel, opéra comique, masque, operetta, Medieval music drama, passion plays, zarzuela, tango operetta, dramma per musica, radio & TV opera, semi-opera, burlesque, musical theatre, and of course Wagner's Gesamtkunstwerk... and does it really matter?!

In this spotlight Lecture-Recital for National Opera Week, Suzanne and Ivan Docenko will perform examples from operas that aren't really operas -- and vice verse.

Free reception to follow!
