    STUDIO RECORDING: Sue is in the studio, recording voice-overs for world-premiere of Emily Kalies’ piece How To Lose 6 Pounds in 6 Hours in collaboration with the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds; choreography by Leanne Pike.

    MEDIEVAL OPERA: Sue will perform the role of Celestial Love in Hildegard von Bingen’s Ordo Virtutum. The piece will be presented with new instrumental interludes composed by Mary E. Larew who also directs this Viriditas Opera production. www.viriditasopera.com

    BLACK HAIR COLLABORATION: Black Hair is an ensemble of musicians who share a commitment to exploring new ways of presenting new music. Together the group devises programs which take the audience on journey - sometimes quite literally - and their concerts need to be seen as well as heard. Experienced workshop leaders, the group also strives to share its ideas through collaborations and residencies, especially with young musicians, actors and dancers. Sue participates along with other York Post Grad performers in the 5-week workshop and concert presentation.

    BACH CHRISTMAS ORATORIO: Cantatas 1, 3 and 6 from Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium, with the Yorkshire Baroque Soloists in support. York University Choir, Peter Seymour conducts.

    OPERA SOCIETY GALA CONCERT: York Opera Society presents its annual Opera Gala Night concert, with a variety of opera arias and scenes from 5 centuries. Sue will perform arias by Purcell (Edd Caine accompanies) and choruses from Handel’s Acis & Galatea.

  • 18 February 2009, 10:00 – Recording studio, St. Michael’s Summertown, Oxford
    FILMING & RECORDING: Sue sings Bass I in Vivaldi’s Gloria and In exitu Israel with SPAV/ Vivaldi's Women, for a Sky TV documentary based on Peter Ackroyd's forthcoming book Venice. Following the huge success of London: the Biography, best-selling author Peter Ackroyd is applying the same technique to Venice. He'll be looking at this most famous of cities through its art, architecture, music and theatre for a series commissioned by Sky Arts, and timed to coincide with the publication of his major work on Venice in the autumn of 2009. The group will also record for a CD and DVD during this time. The documentary on Music will air on Sky Arts HD in early September.

  • 22 February 2009, 20:00 – Orgasmic Bar, Coney Street, York
    OPERAGASMIC: Sue directs scenes from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro in this new, modern interpretation of the opera; the Operagasmic Project aims to get opera out of the concert hall and into contexts to be enjoyed by young people. There will be rehearsals, lectures and a performance all weekend -- all the staging will be done in 48 hours!

    HANDEL & VIVALDI: University Choir & Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, Lucy Russell violin, Peter Seymour conductor. Coronation Anthems; Vivaldi - The Four Seasons. Handel’s four anthems were written for the coronation of King George II and include Zadok the Priest and The King shall rejoice. Vivaldi’s famous concertos were published as part of a set of twelve titled Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione with the first four designated Le quattro stagioni.

    EASTER DRAMAS - QUEM QUERITIS: Viriditas Opera presents a selection of short Medieval Easter dramas. Sue performs solo and in consort as a singer, and will also have a dramatic scene acting out a Planctus Maria. Other pieces include the role of Mary in Depositio & Elevatio Crucis and a Visitatio Sepulchri trope, both from the Swedish Vadstena Ordinal (MS. C. 506 Uppsala University Library), a Passion According to St. Luke, and a Peregrinus play from the Fleury Playbook.

    THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES: Sue plays the Tenor lead role of the Emperor in a scene from the world-premiere of a new satirical children's opera by Hilary Nicholls.     FROM THE MANUSCRIPT: Sue joins Bright Cecilia for their second MA recital.     BRAHMS - EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM: University Chamber Choir, Peter Seymour, conductor. Ein deutsches Requiem; Brahms’ own arrangement for piano duet to his glorious Requiem presents an immediacy and clarity not so apparent in the orchestral version.

    MENDELSSOHN - ELIJAH: University Choir & University Symphony Orchestra, Peter Seymour, director. The central conflicts in the story of the Old Testament prophet are told in a highly dramatic, almost operatic style, with the role of Elijah being vividly characterised.

    AFTERNOON DELIGHT: The final concert from John Potter’s York PostGrad Vocal Ensemble. Enjoy a casual, informal time - an eclectic selection of vocal music by Schein, Schutz (and maybe even Sheit!) as well as Byrd, traditional Medieval songs from Georgia, and American Sacred Harp.

    HUNGERFORD ARTS FESTIVAL: Sue sings with SPAV ("Vivaldi’s Women") in a tour of British summer music festivals. The concert is introduced by Micky White, the researcher upon whose work the film Vivaldi’s Women was based.     VIVALDI’S WOMEN SUMMER SCHOOL: Baroque Vocal Course 2009 "Discover Your Voice." A 3-day course for amateur singers interested in learning more about the SPAV project, and the vocal techniques used to produce the sublime sound the choir makes, known as the SPAV Method! It is particularly appealing of course to early music enthusiasts and also to women who wish to explore their vocal range, in particular giving them the chance to experiment with their lower range. Sue will be involved as a paid Performer and Mentor, coaching the participants, giving lectures and vocal demonstrations. See www.spav.co.uk.

    LANGUEDOC WORKSHOP: 12-19 September 2009 in Roujan, France at La Maison Verte. Leaders include Robert Harre Jones (The Orlando Consort), Berty Rice (soloist) and Francis Steele (Director; The Tallis Scholars, The Sixteen). Special focus on early works of the Renaissance period - Machaut to Dunstable via Josquin (as part of an intense practical survey of the whole period).

    SPAV ON TV: Sue is featured as a Bass singer with Schola Pietatis Antonio Vivaldi ("Vivaldi’s Women") in a documentary on Sky Arts Channel for the forthcoming book Venice: Pure City by Peter Ackroyd. Peter Ackroyd’s Venice begins a 4-part series featuring the music of SPAV, as the relationship between Vivaldi and the women of the Pietà is explored. Episode Three: "The City as Music" should air on the 20th, while the series starts on the 6th. Please view this video to learn more about the series.

    SPAV’S DVD BROADCAST: Sky Arts will broadcast SPAV’s forthcoming DVD, a new production of Vivaldi’s Gloria which will be available for purchase before Christmas, but you can see the performance in its entirety on tv.

    FESTIVAL MEDITERRANEA: Sue sings with SPAV ("Vivaldi’s Women") at the world-famous Festival Mediterranea in Gozo, Malta. Concert of music by Vivaldi, with original instruments and costumes. Artistic Director Richard Vendome also presents an organ concert the previous day on an 18th century instrument he has restored. www.mediterranea.com.mt/

    OPERA SOCIETY GALA CONCERT. Fundraiser and gala performance, variety of opera scenes from the 17th - 21st centuries, including solos, duets and small ensembles. Sue has been selected as a featured soloist with the lead role in "Dido and Aeneas" as Dido, including the famous aria, ’When I am laid.’ She will also perform Carmen’s habanera in the showstopper ‘L’amour est un oiseau rebelle’ from Bizet’s "Carmen."

Sue will perform with the York PostGraduate Vocal Consort -- highlights will include 2 canons for women’s voices by Brahms.

    WORLD-PREMIERE OPERA. Sue performs in the world-premiere of a new opera, "Antigone," by Jon Hughes, with libretto taken from Seamus Heaney’s translation. Mary Larew directs, accompanied by Indonesian gamelan and produced by Viriditas Opera. Sue has been cast in 2 lead roles - Ismene and Eurydice!

    OF A SUMMER NIGHT. Chamber Choir - This summer anthology of British music for unaccompanied choir comes mostly from the first half of the 20th century and also includes music by Elgar, Stanford, Grainger and Holst. The concert, which takes place in the Chapter House, is part of the Celebration of British Music.
